Saturday February 11: Varsity is off. JV is competing in the JV State Tournament at Timberlane High School. Just like all of the previous JV tournaments, there will be no bus. Parents are responsible for carpooling wrestlers to & from the competition. Wrestlers need to arrive no later than 7:45am. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:00. 

Sunday February 12: Off.

Announcement: All 50/50 raffle fundraiser tickets need to be turned in no later than after school this Wednesday (02/01). The winning ticket will be drawn prior to the start of the varsity match.

Wednesday 02/01: This is our last home match & senior night! We wrestle against ConVal High School. There will be a mandatory team film session starting at 3:45 in room 100. Weigh-ins are at 5:00. The varsity match will begin at 6:00, with JV matches and a brief ceremony recognizing seniors just prior.

Thursday 02/02: Practice 3:00-5:00.

Friday 02/03: Practice 3:00-5:00.

Saturday 02/04: The entire team will be competing at Concord High School against Concord & Exeter. The bus will leave GHS at 8:30. Wrestling will begin at 10:00.  

Sunday 02/05: No practice/competition.

Tomorrow's match location and time has changed. The match will be held at Hollis-Brookline Middle School not the high school, and the start time is 5:30 not 7:00. The bus will leave GHS at 3:45.

Due to the weather, there will be no practice today. Film will begin tomorrow at 3:30 in classroom 100.

Wednesday 01/25: Away match at Hollis-Brookline High School. We will have a mandatory team film session in classroom 100 from 3:30-4:45. The bus is leaving GHS at 5:15. The varsity match will start at 7:00, and JV matches will be before.

Friday 01/27: Practice 3:00-5:00.

Saturday 01/28: There is no JV competition. Varsity is wrestling at the Capitol City Classic tournament at Concord High School. The bus will leave GHS at 6:30am. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 8:00am. The bus will transport the team to and from the tournament. 

Sunday 01/29: If you still need to sell 50/50 tickets the booster club has received permission from Ace Hardware for us to sell outside their store from 10:00-12:00. The winning ticket will be drawn at next Wednesday's home match (02/01) so time is running out to get the tickets sold.

Monday 01/16: No practice. Study for exams!

*There will be no pre-practice work out on Tuesday-Thursday. We will do it on Friday. 

Tuesday 01/17: Practice 1:00-2:00. Pictures at 2:15. All wrestlers need to wear warm ups.

Saturday 01/21: All wrestlers have competition.

Varsity will be competing in the Timberlane Invitational Tournament at Timberlane Regional High School. Weight classes are +2 pounds (106=108). The bus will leave GHS at 6:40am. The bus is a drop off only. Parents need to carpool wrestlers home from the tournament. All wrestlers are required to stay until our last wrestler is finished for the day. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 9:00am. The following wrestlers will be competing: Mackey, Familia, St. Jean, Rapazzo, Aldenberg, Choquette, Bickford, Barriere, Gibson, Young, Wight, & Okereke. 

All freshman and JV wrestlers will be competing at Bow High School. There will be a freshman tournament and a JV tournament at the same site. There will not be a bus. Parents need to carpool wrestlers to and from the event. Wrestlers need to arrive at Bow High School no later than 8:45am. Wrestling is scheduled to begin by 10:00am. There is no weigh in for either competition. I will submit exact weights from practice this week. The following wrestlers will be competing in the freshman tournament: Baxter, Fowler, Santos, & Sperry. The following wrestlers will be competing in the JV tournament: Antoniello, Cote, James, Keith, Kissell, & Whipple.

Sunday 01/22: No practice.  

Before I get to this week's schedule, here is the plan for next week (midterm exam week). Monday is a no school day. We will not have practice. Wrestlers are encouraged to use this day to study & get ready for exams. Tuesday-Friday we will practice from 1:00-2:00. After practice on Tuesday we will be taking school pictures. Wrestlers need to have their warm ups with them for pictures. There is no competition on Wednesday, but there will be competition for varsity & JV on Saturday 1/21. Details about those competitions will be posted next week. 

Monday 1/9: Practice 3:00-5:00.

Tuesday 1/10: Practice 3:00-5:00.

Wednesday 1/11: Away match at Windham High School. There will be a mandatory study hall from 3:00-4:00 in classroom 100. The bus will leave at 4:15. The varsity match will begin at 6:00. I assume they will run JV matches prior to the start of the varsity match.

Friday 1/13: Practice 3:00-5:00.

Saturday 1/14: Varsity will be competing in the Winnisquam Winter Classic tournament at Winnisquam Regional High School. JV does not have a competition. The bus will leave GHS at 6:20am. Wrestling is scheduled to start at 9:00.

Saturday 1/7: We are hosting a quad meet against Londonderry, Bishop Guertin, & Mascoma Valley. All wrestlers need to report to the high school by 7:15. Competition will start at 9:00.

Sorry for the late notice, but I was just informed that no one can park at school tomorrow because the lot needs to be plowed. Varsity wrestlers will need to be dropped off to get the bus in the morning. 

The JV tournament at Windham High School has been delayed by 1 hour. Wrestlers need to arrive at WHS by 9:30am. If you need a ride, be at GHS by 8:45am and there will be a carpool going from there. Wrestling should begin around 10:00am. 

Optional practice today. Looking to go 10:30-11:30. The varsity tournament at Hollis-Brookline High School tomorrow has been delayed by 1 hour. The bus will now leave at 7:45am, and wrestling is scheduled to start at 9:30am. As of right now, the JV tournament at Windham High School is running on schedule. Wrestlers need to arrive at WHS by 8:30am. If anything changes, I will let everyone know. 

Monday December 26: Practice 11:00-12:30.

Tuesday December 27: JV has the day off. Varsity is at the Lowell Holidays tournament. Report to GHS no later than 6:30am. The following wrestlers will be competing: Mackey, Familia, St. Jean, Rapazzo, Aldenberg, Choquette, Bickford, Barriere, Gibson, Young, Wight, & Okereke.

Wednesday December 28: JV has the day off. Day 2 of the Lowell Holidays for varsity. We will discuss arrival time on Monday at the tournament for those that qualify for Day 2.

Friday December 30: JV & Varsity will be competing. JV will be at the Windham Holidays tournament at Windham High School. Parents will be responsible for carpooling wrestlers to & from the tournament. Wrestlers need to arrive at WHS no later than 8:30am. We have one last fundraiser that will start this week. Today, the wrestlers will receive 50/50 tickets. The tickets will sell for one for $5.00, and 3 for $10.00. Just like the apparel fundraiser, we are asking the wrestlers to take on the burden of selling the tickets. If you choose to buy one, or a couple, that is up to you, but this fundraiser is not intended for the wrestlers to come home, hand you a bunch or tickets, and ask for money. The winning ticket will be drawn before the start of our home Senior Night match on Wednesday February 01, so the wrestlers have a lot of time to sell tickets. We are setting a goal of selling $100 worth of tickets per wrestler.  

The Concord High School JV coach is looking to get his kids some matches on Friday afternoon. I think this is a great opportunity for our guys. So, instead of practicing on Friday I would like to send the following kids to Concord High School from 2:00-4:00. Because we are treating that as more of a practice than a competition, wrestler's with a driver's license can drive themselves. Others will need to find a ride with parents. A couple of quick announcements before I get to this week's schedule. Just a reminder that the program book ads are due by Wednesday. The program ads can be handed into Coach Detjen anytime today, tomorrow, or Wednesday. Also, the team & coaching staff will be wearing ugly holiday sweaters for Wednesday's match at Milford. Come support the team & wear an ugly holiday sweater!

Wednesday 12/21: Dual meet at Milford High School. There will be a mandatory team study hall from 3:00-4:00 in the senior cafe. During this time we will also have a grade check. The bus will leave at 4:30. The varsity match will begin at 6:00 with JV matches taking place just before.

Friday 12/23: Early release day. Practice will be 1:00-3:00.

There will be 2 competitions over winter break; one that varsity will be competing in and one that JV will be competing in.

Varsity: The varsity squad will be competing in the Lowell Holidays tournament at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA on Tuesday December 27 & Wednesday December 28. We will leave GHS at 6:45am on 12/27. It will be scratch weight on day 1. Wrestling will begin by 10:00. We will discuss with the wrestlers that advance to day 2 when/how we will be getting to Lowell for 12/28. Weigh-ins will be +1 pound for day 2.  

JV: The JV squad will be competing in the Windham Holidays tournament at Windham High School in Windham, NH on Friday December 30. Wrestlers need to arrive at WHS no later than 8:30am. Just like the Concord tournament last weekend, parents need to carpool wrestlers to & from the tournament. Wrestlers cannot drive themselves. There will be no weigh-ins for this tournament. I will send in exact weights from next Wednesday's weigh-in. 

The ads for the team program book are due no later than next Wednesday 12/21. Remember, the program books do not cost us anything as a program to put together or print, so this is a 100% profit fundraiser for us. Thursday December 8: Practice 3:00-5:00.

Friday December 9: There is no school so practice will be earlier (11:00-12:30).

Saturday December 10: JV is wrestling in a tournament at Concord High school. Varsity is wrestling in a tournament at Salem High School.

JV at Concord: JV parents needs to carpool the wrestlers to and from the tournament. The kids cannot drive themselves. They need to arrive at Concord High School no later than 8:45am. There will be no weigh-ins. I will send our roster in with the exact weights they weigh at practice on Thursday. Wrestling should begin at 10:00 and end by early afternoon (1:00-2:00).

Varsity at Salem: The bus to Salem High School will leave at 6:15. Weigh-ins are at 7:00, and wrestling should begin at 9:00.

Sunday December 11: Off.  

We are still in need of food/drink items to be donated for Saturday. Food/drink donations make up the bulk of our revenue from this event, so anything you can do to help with be greatly appreciated. We will be having a booster club meeting on Monday November 28 at 5:30 in classroom 100 to discuss the Grizzly Brawl that we will be hosting on Saturday December 03. Please make every effort to attend this meeting. Food/beverage donations are a huge part of this event, and we will be discussing what we need and how much. Saturday 11/26: There will be a non-mandatory practice from 10:00-11:00am. There will not be any consequences for not going to this practice. It will be a quick 1 hour practice for anyone that wants to work off some of that turkey & stuffing.

Sunday 11/27: No practice.

All wrestlers that were at practice last Friday received information regarding 2 team fundraisers (program book & apparel). Both were explained at the parent meeting but I want to further explain what I expect and why these are important for those parents that were unable to attend the meeting.

-Program Book Fundraiser: We are asking for parental support on this one. If you can, please purchase a small ad in the book wishing your wrestler good luck this season, or whatever you would like to say. For the bigger $ ads, please reach out to your place of employment and see if they are willing to purchase an ad. This program book is 100% profit for the club, so we really want to have as many ads sold as possible. We need the ad sheet back by the middle of December at the latest.

-Apparel Fundraiser: We are asking the wrestlers to shoulder the load on this one. They have until Monday December 05 to sell as much merchandise as possible, but we are setting a minimum goal of $100. Parents absolutely can purchase merchandise, but are not required to. We are asking the wrestlers to reach out to teachers, neighbors, friends, & family. The wrestler(s) that sell the most merchandise in dollars will be rewarded at the end of the season banquet.   

Based on our team meeting yesterday, I wanted to remind everyone about what is due in the near future.

-Weight certification & concussion testing: It looks like everyone should be completed with both by the end of practice today (Tuesday). Great job by everyone bringing in their signed certification permission forms yesterday!

-The parent meeting notification form was due yesterday. For anyone that did not turn it in, please get that to me ASAP.

-The athletic department and team policies were handed out and discussed yesterday. Once you have had a chance to review them please get me the signed parent form.

-We discussed goals yesterday. I am asking each wrestler to set 2 individual goals & 2 team goals for this year. These are due by Friday.

-Each wrestler needs to purchase a warm up set. The order form was handed out yesterday. They are the same as last year so if yours still fits then you are all set. I need to know sizes for new wrestlers and anyone else purchasing anything new ASAP. The uniform (singlet) will be provided by the team. 

-Each wrestler needs their own pair of wrestling shoes and headgear. You need to have both ASAP. Any wrestler with braces needs to wear a mouth guard for competition. It needs to cover all braces, so if you have top and bottom braces you need a top and bottom mouth guard. 

-Because wrestling is a contact sport, cleanliness is important. Each wrestler is encouraged to clean themselves after practice, either by taking a shower or by wiping down with antibacterial wipes. For those that shower, do not share towels. I will keep a locker stocked with body wash, shampoo, antibacterial wipes, & lysol (for equipment) for wrestlers that do not have their own to use. Each wrestler should also have a lock for their locker so that valuables are not stolen during practice.

I will be posting a weekly update/schedule every Monday throughout the season. For your planning purposes, I also have the schedule for next week (Thanksgiving week) on this post.
