Goffstown JV Softball battled through seven innings on Wednesday to defeat Sanborn 3-2. The Grizzlies had a tough day at the plate and struggled through the first five innings getting on base only three times. In the fourth inning Sanborn had a walk and two hits which resulted in them taking a 2-0 lead. In the sixth inning Goffstown freshman Leea Sarvela hit a single to left field, which was followed by a beautiful bunt by Freshman Emily Fournier. Fournier's bunt resulted in Sarvela advancing all the way to third, and Fournier taking second. Freshman Alex Page came up next for the Grizzlies and hit a hard single into left field scoring Sarvela and Fournier, bringing the score to a 2-2 tie. The Grizzlies were able to hold Sanborn in their last at bats, keeping the score 2-2. In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore Dani Vermette hit a deep triple to right field. With two outs, Sarvela hit a hard shot down third base line to score Vermette, allowing the Grizzlies to win their home opener 3-2. Sophomore Sloane French pitched all seven innings for the Grizzlies facing 25 batters. French only allowed one walk and two hits, while striking out 16. The girls play again today at 4:15 at John Stark High School.
