Williamson Named LEC Offensive Player of the Week

            GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced today that University of Southern Maine junior outside hitter Jess Williamson (Goffstown, N.H.) has been selected as the women's volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25.

            This is Williamson's first Offensive Player of the Week honor for the 2016 season, and the second of her career.  She also received four Rookie of the Week citations in 2014.

            In four matches last week, Williamson racked up 72 kills on 128 attacks for a .438 hitting percentage (72-16-128), 36 digs and 10 service aces.  The 5-foot-7 outside hitter presently leads the Little East in kills per set (4.98) and kills (219), and is second in hitting percentage (.330).  She also is ranked fourth nationally in NCAA Division III in kills per set and points per set (5.59).

            Williamson opened her week setting a USM single-match record for hitting percentage (20 or more attacks) in the Huskies' four-set win over Husson University notching 21 kills with just two errors on 27 attacks for a .704 hitting percentage.  Two days later in a 3-0 win against Salem State University, Williamson had 21 kills, 10 digs and five service aces.

            Facing the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in an LEC match on Saturday, Williamson had another double-double knocking down 14 kills and digging up 11 balls to go along with five aces in a three-set win.  She finished the week with a 16-kill, 11-dig performance in a loss to Brandeis University.

            This season, Williamson also reached the 1,000-career kills milestone against the University of New England (September 7), and presently has a school record 1,151 kills in her career.
